Read a strange fact in a trade paper stating that non-pregnant women still purchase maternity clothes. Why is?
I'm doing an economics paper on the "business of birth" and all that encompasses advertsing , marketing to, and selling to starting families. I read a strange fact in a trade paper stating that non-pregnant women still purchase maternity clothes. Why is that?
Answer:
Unless they're buying it as a present for a friend who's pregnant, its a subconscious desire to become pregnant. They anticipate they'll be pregnant soon, or in the near future, and will buy the clothes now, so they won't have to shop for it later. Factoring in that they see a color pattern, fashion, or design style they like, and fear in won't be in stock if they wait to buy it later, they purchase it now, rather than risk finding its obsolete later in the future.
