Side effect of a balanced diet?

I am preparing to return to martial arts after a twelve year break, and I have started trying to take my life in hand a bit. i am running four times a week, and have started eating healthily - less fat/carbs/alcohol/sugar, and more fibre, protein and all the good stuff.

I feel great. I sleep well, have more energy, and my consumption of paracetamol, indigestion tablets etc. has decreased to zero.

Just one snag ...

My new healthy lifestyle seems to have left me with the most spectacular flatulence. Truly, my insides are producing more gas than an Argentinian cattle ranch.

Can anyone tell me what might be causing this, and suggest a remedy?




Answer:

Its just because you are eating more fruit and veg - don't worry. Having peppermint tea will help, as will proactive drinks and yoghurts that promote 'healthy bacteria' in your gut. If its hurting or making you feel sicky have some pineapple, it contains enzymes that promote digestion and ease sickness. Hope this helps - good luck with the fitness regime, (as an ex-fitness instructor...make sure you are allowing your body time to recover between those runs, especially since you are returning after a long break... and ensure you are stretching afterwards).
